plaza da armas

The pecking heads of pigeons move in sync to the footsteps of the locals who came to gather at the Plaza da Armas, Arequipa Peru. The suns rays beating down, leaving a contrasting glow to where my flesh was hidden.  The fountain being focal point to snapshots and refreshing thoughts in this bathing heat.

Cast iron rungs and detailed hedges outline green pastures which are understood as out of bounds.  Couples embrace in the cities beauty- minds at east, ignoring the looming volcano in the distance.

Palm trees and illuminating floral give color to the properly named “white city”. Locals pass like clockwork selling vibrant gelatos, homemade popsicles, and postcards- while self acclaimed photographers, weighted down with ancient cameras: that hang like tacky jewellery on the elderly- quickly dart to and from holding down their cornerstone business block.

With my shades obscuring the sun, I soak it all in.
