signs that shine

We meet again pen
Though this time with feet in new sand.
Nearly 60 years ago this beach-
Bearing cunning resemblance to its older brother today,
With a few grey hairs and a billion grains exchanged
Unfolded quite a different tale-
A truth that still jars each footstep that chances roulette
Under the earthy contours
The burnt moon caresses nightly

Speckled with startling signs nailed to wooden posts
Painted with the blood of those sacrificed, in turn for these very signs-
Signs that cry.
Signs that shine

Signs that swell your heart- each beat becoming a nightmare revisited.
Signs that force travellers to alter route.
Signs that ignite memories and kiss faces with tears.
Signs that have story tellers revel in agony.
Signs that open its jowls and swallow whole.
Signs that cast shadows on a grim past.
Signs that link with barb- halting growth.
Signs that climb mountains and scream at the tops of it lungs
Signs that reach out and grab you by the shirt collar,
Shaking and uprooting even the strongest of character

With flesh that retracts with every step
And gravitational conscious- I close my eyes
Signs that cry
Signs that shine
